On the 1st December 2012 Framlingham Under 16A rugby team made the long journey from Suffolk to The Perse School, Cambridge for a much-anticipated rugby match. The Perse team arrived at 1:45pm for an intense warm-up before a 2:30pm kick-off. The Perse team was full of confidence as they strolled onto the pitch knowing Framlingham would not be as sharp in the first 10 minutes after a long coach journey. Conor Sullivan took the kick-off for the Perse and the game was underway. Perse made a strong start as expected, but could not break through a stubborn Framlingham defence.
Then finally in the 11th minute some good hands from the Perse backs saw the ball end up with Toby Burn who broke through the Framlingham line and placed the ball in the corner for the first try. After this the Perse continued to dominate, wearing down the Framlingham defence until once again Toby Burn broke through. This time he was tackled just short of the line but after some good rucking by Tom Neuberger, the ball was recycled and Josh Curtis managed to bundle it over the line.
Midway through the first half Framlingham were seeing much more of the ball and after some excellent phase play the ball was in the hands of the winger who cut inside Toby Burn and scored under the posts. This was converted to take the score to 10-7. Half-time was fast approaching and Framlingham were looking very strong. They were edging closer to the Perse line and the forwards were making good ground until finally they smashed through and scored in the corner. However they missed the conversion which meant the score was 10-12 at half-time.
After half-time Framlingham continued to dominate and were camped in the Perse half. They won a scrum on the five metre line and the ball was sent out to the backs who ran a pre-prepared move, which resulted in the centre bursting through a gap to dive over the line. They made the conversion and it was not looking good for the Perse. The Perse did not give up, but Framlingham’s defence was exceptional and the Perse could not break through. The game ended 10-19.
